THE BENEFITS of TEA BLENDING
HOW I STARTED BLENDING TEAS
I got into tea blending three and a half years ago when I quit my corporate job to start my own business. I was depressed at the time and had to learn self-care from scratch again, starting with the most basic things; eating properly, getting out of bed, showering daily and so on.
It took me a few months to get myself out of that state with the help of coaching and therapy and that’s when I started to explore tea blending in order to support my mental health. I began to study herbs and their benefits, looking in particular to herbs that could help with anxiety and support me in alleviating my depression.
The first blend I made is now called “Respire” and in that process, I realised that pairing the medicinal qualities of the herbs with the intention to put yourself first and take that time for you, to heal naturally, to listen to your body and give it what it needs most is very powerful.
Et voila — that’s how Bloem & Moi was born!
TEA BLENDING IS FOR EVERYONE
You don’t have to be a herb expert to start blending tea. Anyone can go buy herbs, research their benefits, tune into their bodies and what they need, explore their creativity through blending and foster their connection to their intuition through this practice.
When we use foods or products we have created consciously ourselves always taste better (and probably heal better) than commercial products. You can put your love and intentions into them throughout the whole process, making the result a deeply consciously and uniquely crafted creation.
Using herbs to heal ourselves is part of our inherited cultural legacy, no matter where your ancestors come from; every human culture has used plants for healing since time immemorial, and following in those footsteps is a beautiful journey.
CONNECTING WITH NATURE
Creating tea blends is also another beautiful way of connecting with nature. This doesn’t require heading to the mountains; you can get them from a local organic shop that guarantees the environmental impact is low and doesn’t involve any pesticides. Blending your own herbs can remind you of the connection we have to nature and the power of our intuition.
Each herb has specific benefits, and knowing what is out there and how you can use them to heal or help yourself with the little troubles in life is very empowering. Experimenting with them allows you to learn what your body responds best to in terms of taste, smell and effect
The learning part shouldn’t intimidate you — it can be fun! If you like learning about things that have a practical application and can provide real-world support for yourself and your family and friends, you might find tea blending a wonderful thing to explore.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
When I started blending herbs and realised how many people needed infusions for various ailments it was a huge draw for me to keep learning, but the other side of it was (and remains) the joy of having a new creative outlet.
It wasn’t just that I was receiving the benefits of the herbs themselves but the benefits of this practice, of this new skill that I was learning, of this ritual that involves my intuition and my connection to nature.
Just as you might pick up drawing or cooking or gardening, having a creative outlet that is not linked to your business is so important for entrepreneurs. Anyone who would like to explore their creativity in a way that connects them to nature, to their body, to their intuition might find that tea blending could be a joy-inducing hobby for them.
Much love,
